How to clean your jewelry in times of Coronavirus

We are currently going through a historic phase in which cleanliness, hygiene and other safety measures have become more essential than ever. Wash your hands constantly, use hydroalcoholic gel, aerate clothes that are worn on the street, disinfect the house frequently, maintain safety distances … All these precautions have entered our lives to stop the Covid-19 .

That is why measures must also be taken regarding the use and cleaning of our jewels as it is important to know how to clean and disinfect the virus from all materials to control its spread.

At Germán Jeweler we recommend that all people wash all their rings, bracelets, watches or other pieces of jewelry that they use daily at least once a day. To do this, you must also take into account the type of material, metal and stone to be cleaned so that your jewelry remains free of Coronavirus but do not deteriorate.

For most jewels, including pieces with hard stones such as diamonds, sapphires and rubies, we recommend washing them in a container with hot water, a temperature of 30 or 40 degrees is sufficient, along with a splash of cleaning liquid and a soft toothbrush. .

Steps to follow

1. You immerse your jewel in the solution (30º-40º water and mild soap)

2. You rub gently with the help of the toothbrush, passing through all parts of the jewel

3. Rinse the piece with hot water

4. Allow to air dry on absorbent paper

As for other more delicate gemstones such as emeralds, topaz, quartz, amethysts, pearls … You have to be more careful when cleaning them so as not to end up damaging them. For these cases it is more appropriate to wash the piece only with hot water but following the same procedure mentioned above.

It is also important for the correct maintenance and care of the jewelry to avoid using hand sanitizer gel with rings or bracelets on, because its high alcohol content could damage the piece.
